Composite Culture in a Multicultural Society:17th New Delhi World Book Fair

The 17th New Delhi World Book Fair begins January 29 till February 4. The event offers a glimpse of the multi-lingual publishing industry in India bringing together publishers, booksellers, book distributors on one hand and professionals, intellectuals, academicians and writers on the other.

The theme this year is Composite Culture in a Multicultural Society. A two-day international seminar on the theme is also being organized. There is an exclusive pavilion for children and a specially designed youth pavilion.

The publishing scenario in contemporary India is conceptually exciting and linguistically and quantitatively diverse. India is perhaps the only country in the world which publishes books in 24 languages. It ranks third in the publication of English books after the USA and the UK . More than 70,000 new titles are published every year out of which 20,000 are in the English language.
