Abu Ghraib

Cuba erected a billboard with photographs of U.S. soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib on the Malecon, Havana's coastal highway across from the U.S. Interest Section. (December 17, 2004).

In Seymour M. Hersh's book,
Chain of Command: The Road from 9/11 to Abu Ghraib, the false claims about weapons of mass destruction and the lies and deceptions that led America into Iraq are exposed. Hersh won the Pulitzer Prize for his investigative journalism about the massacre at My Lai, Vietnam and has a long history of speaking truth to power. The mass media are not allowing real events to be reported. It is only in books and documentation kept in libraries that there might be safeguarding of truth. Amnesty International provides a "Bibliography on Torture and Trauma" and notes that items can be retrieved from libraries.

Librarians in the United States have taken a stand against torture:
"Resolution Against the Use of Torture as a Violation of Our Basic Values as Librarians."
